7 Heating Hacks to Lower Your Costs this Winter

Are you looking forward to winter? We are at Glider Oil, but we also know that as much as our customers love snow, skiing, and hot chocolates in front of a fireplace, they are not so thrilled about the costs of heating!

Here are seven easy and low costs hacks to cut your fuel bills:

1. Add caulking and weather-stripping around doors, attic access, windows, outdoor faucets, and any areas where there might be leaks. An October afternoon is the perfect time to check for drafts!
   
   
2. Install rubber gaskets behind outlets and switch plates on exterior walls and install or replace door sweeps.
   
   
3. Reduce the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees.
   
   
4. Switch your ceiling fan to turn in a clockwise direction – it will create an updraft and circulate warm air throughout the room.
   
   
5. Check weather-stripping and door sweeps at least once a year and repair or replace them as needed.
   
   
6. Wrap your pipes to guard against heat loss and protect them from freezing.
   
   
7. Open window blinds and shades during the day and let the sunshine in!
