Winter Prep Tips from Glider Oil
Pretty soon you’ll be turning up your heating system to keep you warm when the temperatures fall. Before you turn on your heating equipment for the first time, be sure to follow these tips to better prepare your system, and your home, for the winter.
Tend to Air Filters
You don’t want your heating system to blow dust throughout your home when it kicks on, so be sure to change or clean the air filters of your heating equipment! In addition to reducing dust in the air, it’ll improve the airflow and efficiency of the equipment.
Prevent Drafts
Sealing windows and doors with caulk or weather stripping can help remove cold drafts from your home, and prevent heated air from escaping! You can also seal up leaky ductwork with mastic or aluminum tape.
Clean the Condenser
Since the outdoor equipment is exposed to the elements, be sure to check for any debris or damage. Clear away any sticks, rocks, branches or other debris that may interfere with the equipment’s operation.
Test Alarms
Smoke, fire and carbon monoxide detectors are essential to you and your family’s safety! Replace batteries as needed and test each unit to ensure it’s working properly.
